Tutorials on how to use AREN

Here are several tutorials to help you get started with the AREN discussion platform (PDF file containing all the instructions: here):

  1. Create an account and log in to the platform:

    • Here’s a quick overview of the steps: Go to the AREN website, click “Register,” fill in the fields, and be sure to check the box for “Request permission to create discussions.”
  2. Easily create login credentials for a group of students:

    • Here’s a quick overview of the steps: Log in to AREN, click “Groups,” then “User Management,” then “Create Class,” and finally copy and paste the list of students (on separate lines, with each student’s first and last name).
  3. Prepare a debate (based on a text of your choice):

    • The steps in a nutshell: Log in to AREN, upload a text (by clicking on “Documents,” then “New Category”—which creates a thumbnail—and then the icon for adding a text), and start a discussion (by clicking on “Start a Discussion,” selecting the student group, and then the text to be discussed).
  4. Log in to the platform, access the discussion, and participate (for students):

    • The steps in a nutshell: Log in to AREN, click on the thumbnail and then on the debate banner indicated by the teacher, select a passage from the text to be discussed or another student’s contribution to the debate, click on “somewhat disagree,” “somewhat agree,” or “don’t understand,” then write your argument
