PAUSE Program: new call for applications

| The PAUSE program is a national program that provides incentive funding to research organizations and higher education and research institutions planning to host a scientist or artist at risk who has been forced into exile.
This call is open to two types of funding:
1/ 100% funding for a three-year doctoral contract (five grants will be awarded). Only students who are not yet enrolled in a doctoral program in France and who have not been enrolled in a doctoral program in their country of origin for more than one year are eligible.Download the practical details.
2/ For all other applications, including those from doctoral students who have been enrolled in a doctoral program in France or in their country of origin for more than one year: 60% co-financing (or 80% in the case of multiple applications) for one year, renewable once, subject to a new evaluation. Please note that a renewal request for a third year may be submitted for doctoral students who were successful in previous sessions.

| The purpose of this funding is to co-finance a project to host a foreign scientist fromfrom all geographic origins and all disciplinesmeeting all of the following eligibility criteria:

| Amount and duration of financing
The amount of funding allocated varies depending on the status and experience of the beneficiary, as well as the existence of a social support project by the host institution:
- Category 1 (doctoral student, research assistant), up to €20,000;
- Category 2 (post-doctoral researcher, lecturer, research engineer), up to €40,000;
- Category 3 (university professor, research director), up to €60,000.
The co-financing grant awarded by PAUSE is capped at 60% of the total budget submitted by the host institution. Co-financing of up to 80% may be considered on a case-by-case basis depending on the specific situation of the researchers and/or institutions, as well as for institutions submitting multiple applications per call.

| The financial support received to host a candidate covers a maximum period of one year. It may be renewed once, following a new evaluation process based on the progress of the work and scientific results. Doctoral students enrolled in their first year at the time of their initial application may receive co-financing for a third year in order to complete their doctorate, following an evaluation of the progress of their work based on the conclusions of the thesis monitoring committee of the host institution.
The executive management of the PAUSE program will request a review of the past year from the researcher and the host institution at the end of the hosting project presented in the application file.

| Preparation of application files
Applications are compiled by public research organizations and public higher education institutions under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation and/or the Ministry of Culture, as well as by private higher education institutions of general interest (EESPIG). The procedures for compiling the application are indicated on the PAUSE website.

| The PAUSE program encourages applicants outside France to start looking for accommodation in conjunction with their host institutions as early as possible before their arrival, or even as soon as they submit their application. |
|
|
| Evaluation and selection of applications
Applications are evaluated by scientists, including members of the PAUSE program sponsorship committee, based on the following criteria:
- the level of urgency and threat;
- the quality of the scientific dossier;
- the terms and conditions of the support and social and professional integration program.
The PAUSE program steering committee selects applications based on proposals from the sponsorship committee. Its decisions are final.The selection results will be announced at the end of June 2020.
