Here, the authors examine the notion, as well as the injunctions formulated by the hierarchy of educational systems and the pressing demands for methods expressed by "novices". By studying teachers' activities and exploring the complexity of their actions, we have been able to make a detailed study of their practices in four disciplines: physical education and sports, reading and spelling, and geography.

This book is the result of a symposium held in Toulouse in September 2017.
