TALC

TALC (From Text to Classroom)

The TALC project is an exploratory study designed to provide a descriptive and comprehensive overview of the actual practices of Cycle 3 teachers (CM and 6e) in literature classes (literary reading sessions), given that the programs that came into effect in 2016 assign literature a role in "personal development" that goes beyond the literary education traditionally associated with the subject. Data will be collected during filmed sessions, self-confrontation interviews, and cross-interviews. The methodological originality of the project lies in the fact that the choice of the work to be read will be imposed on teachers, while the didactic approach will be left entirely up to the teacher. The main aim is to construct a multi-referenced framework for analysis: didactic analysis, linguistic analysis of interactions between students, analysis of the teacher's professional gestures, combining the scientific expertise of the LIRDEF researchers involved in the project.

Objectives

  • Observe actual practices in a small number of classes based on different literary genres: poetry, theater, novels, short stories, comic books.
  • Develop specific thinking on these problematic genres at Cycle 3 level.
  • Discuss the question of the value of the work in an educational context.
  • Analyze the effects of teaching practices on student learning.
  • Observe how teachers take into account the tension between literary issues and personal development issues.
  • Experiment with the multi-framework data collection and analysis system combining didactic analysis, language analysis, professional behavior analysis, and activity analysis in order to open up new research perspectives.
