There seems to be a consensus that comics have a place in schools, and they are being used in many disciplines, from elementary school through college.
This raises questions about what is actually being done with—or about—comics. Are comics becoming commonplace in classrooms, and if so, to what extent and in what ways? How can the unique characteristics of the medium be taken into account in the activities that incorporate it? What pitfalls should be avoided, particularly regarding the skills expected of students—skills that are sometimes underestimated due to the perceived ease of reading offered by comics?
This issue of *Tréma*, an international journal in the field of education, will address these issues surrounding the educational uses of comics.
