ALFA

The ALFA team conducts research in the field shared by the teaching of French, literature, modern languages and the arts. Its fields of reference are educational science, language science and the "sciences of the arts". Its common thread is the role of language as an instrument for the elaboration of situational knowledge and the development of the subject, as well as an instrument for the joint activity of teacher and pupil. As such, ALFA focuses on the way in which the analysis of language in the classroom enables us to understand how, around precisely identified objects of knowledge in their specific context, the professional gestures of teachers and the activity of students enter into a configuration, or not.

The relationship between language and schoolwork, language and the construction of knowledge, attitudes and values, language and the construction of the subject and his or her academic, social and professional identity, are at the heart of ALFA's concerns. At the same time, the team attaches specific interest to the factors that produce differences between students, which its analyses help to clarify. As such, it participates in the national seminar RE.S.E.I.D.A (REcherches sur la Socialisation, l'Enseignement, les Inégalités et les Différenciations dans les Apprentissages).

This interest in the reflexive and transformative power of language in the school context has led us to develop specific analytical tools to bring this out more clearly. These tools, developed for research purposes, are applied to improving teacher training, which is the priority research focus for all members of the LIRDEF team.
